Maisy’s Song: Eulogy for a dog who was like a daughter

Final walk

Last glances

Your footprints heavy and rapidly receding into the distant mix of light and shadows

Final breaths

Last chances to inhale, exhale, pulse with aliveness

Sounds barely audible before they rise to the level of my own heart as I crane with all my senses

Leaning into your existence

This is what it looks like to love you

To watch you down the hallway until only a remembrance of your image is left

Until only the echo of your life is left

And then I am left in a solitude darker and deeper than the ocean floor
